Pull Tabs Vs Nylon Wrap

Deciding between pull tabs and nylon binder to hold together bundled cable depends on the quantity of conductors in the bundle, installation conditions and personal preference. Pull tabs allow for a more natural pull , while nylon binder provides a more uniform round bundle that stays intact throughout the process. Which one do you think would work best for your project?

  • Pull Tabs: are strips of electrical tape wrapped around bundled conductors and spaced every 3ft-5ft or more and the ends of the tape is folded on itself forming a easy to pull tab.  They help keep wires grouped together during pay off of the reel and are easy to remove prior to being pulled into the conduit if preferred. Pull tabs allow bundled wire to take the natural shape of the electrical conduit. the bundled cable pulls like individual singles which makes it easier to maneuver wires through bends and conduit imperfections.  unlike nylon binder it wont snag on conduit imperfections, increasing the risk of bunching or difficulty in pulling.
  • Nylon Binder: This is a continuous binding high tensile strength waxed nylon that holds bundled wire conductors tightly together.   nylon binder is recommended for high conductor counts of small gauge wire.  binder wrapped bundles have a more uniform round bundle.  the binder ensures large groups of wires stay uniform and stop tangling during payoff of reel.  there are 2 styles of nylon binder, single spiral bind or double binder cross wrap.
